Bed Bugs are on the Rise
Since the 1940's, Bed Bugs were all but eliminated from the United States particularly through the use of DDT. Due to changes in pesticides, less frequent applications, and international travel they are now becoming more commmonplace.
Bed Bugs have been found to be infesting hotels, homes, dormatories, healthcare facilities, movie theatres, cruise ships, rental furniture, even public transportation. Anywhere people sleep and rest can harbor Bed Bugs.
Bed Bugs spread by making contact with you in any of these situtations. If you inadvertantly pick them up and bring them back with you they will infest your own sleeping area.
Bed Bug Signs to Look For
Bed bugs are flat, oval shaped about the size and shape of an apple seed. They can be reddish-orange to dark brown in color. They are nocturnal, prefer to hide in cracks, and can be very difficult to find.
Their fecal matter leaves dark "blood spots" along with eggs, and egg casings in areas of infestation. They tend to cluster together.
Unusual bites can also signify Bed Bugs and a thorough inspection by a professional is required to locate them.
